After the Truth

Christopher and Kathleen Riley are screenwriters whose first film, AFTER THE TRUTH, a multiple-award-winning German-language courtroom thriller, sparked international controversy in 1999 when it was released in Germany. The film earned its star Goetz George a Best Actor nomination for the prestigious European Film Award for his portrayal of Josef Mengele.

The husband-wife team has been writing together since 1983. They wrote 25 TO LIFE, a dramatic thriller for Touchstone Pictures, THE SKY’S THE LIMIT, an action romance for Paramount Pictures, and THE OTHER WHITE HOUSE, a political thriller for Sean Connery’s Fountainbridge Films. They adapted the book ACTUAL INNOCENCE by Barry Scheck, Peter Neufeld and Jim Dwyer for Mandalay Television Pictures and the Fox television network.  They recently completed work on ELIJAH, a supernatural thriller, and CRAWLSPACE, a domestic thriller for indie director Helmut Schleppi.

In addition to writing, the Rileys train aspiring screenwriters for work in Hollywood and have taught in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Paris. They have served for six years on the faculty of the acclaimed screenwriting program Act One:  Writing for Hollywood and received the 2003 Faculty Award.  Also in 2003, they founded the Act One Advanced Writers' Workshop and in 2004 founded the Act One Screenwriter's Spiritual Journey workshop.  Christopher Riley currently serves as director of writing programs for Act One, Inc.

Christopher Riley is the author of The Hollywood Standard:  The Complete and Authoritative Guide to Script Format and Style, available now from Michael Wiese Productions.  Drawing on Riley's years running the standard-setting Warner Bros. script processing department, the guide is designed as a must-have reference for every screenwriter.

The Rileys are members of the Writers Guild of America, west.  They work actively with the organization We Can, which Kathleen Riley co-founded, to assist families affected by childhood brain tumors.  They live with their children in Los Angeles.
